Another week is upon us and as per usual, there's no shortage of choices. Here's a few parties we recommend for your listening and dancing pleasure.
Thursday night brings you typically-excellent deep tech and tech house vibes from Mioli Music. The San Francisco crew has a reputation for throwing high quality parties. An excellent choice if you love our city’s best soundsystem and starting your weekend a bit early.
RS94109’s recent re-opening has had any San Francisco dance music fan aflutter. The addition of in-store sets doesn’t hurt (they’ve also recently hosted Dark Entries Records). This week they host Solar and Tyrel.
The Armory Bar may be a best kept secret (with its swanky lounge feel and cozy basement) and this week it plays host to Fest Gegen's event Shanghaied. It offers an excellent pregaming option for the many options up for grabs on this Friday night. It promises a techno and house laden alternative to the usual St. Patrick's Day festivities with Rose Auravide, DpeshMo & Cielux, and Lazer Beahm on the bill.
Parameter & Surface Tension just aren’t slowing down in bringing high-octane, interesting techno to San Francisco. This week that means Perc. He has released on every major techno label, from Kompakt to Drumcode to Ovum and CLR. See him in everyone’s favorite Void-laden basement at Monarch.
ANNA made her first trek to the US last fall, but she’s been known as a talent in her home country of Brazil for quite some time. Now based in Barcelona, she is traveling the world and bringing her dark and impressive brand of techno and tech house to San Francisco this Friday. She is well-appreciated for her outstanding track selection and her own analog-heavy solo productions (which have seen releases on Tronic, Terminal M, and Diynamic). If you’ve been to any major techno act in the last year, chances are good you’ve heard one of them, as she’s seen support from the likes of Pig & Dan, Deadmau5, Chris Liebing, and Richie Hawtin. Opening set by the always-excellent Alex Sibley (Intec Digital).
This forward-thinking event is heavy on Ghostly International alumni (Fort Romeau and Shigeto) and features immersive audio and visual elements and multiple rooms. This complex has been regularly hosting large scale music and art events making it a must-visit venue, and it’s well worth the trek. Shigeto is known for his skillfully crafted ambient and glitchy tunes, while Fort Romeau brings a disco sensibility to his well-composed deep house tracks. In addition to the music lineup, the event promises extensive artistic installations, robotics and more. As You Like It hosts the Gods and Monsters room and Manjumasi's Mark Slee will round out the lineup in ENVELOP.
Every Sunday WERD closes out your weekend at Monarch. It’s back this week, this time with a set from Qzen. She has successfully collaborated with John Tejada, Claude VonStroke, Sacha Robotti, and Dave Aju. Her diverse background includes techno, drum and bass, and being the dance music programmer for iTunes.
This renowned talent makes a stop in San Francisco this Sunday. His richly-textured solo productions and remixes are legendary, and his sets tend to be emotionally resonant and well-mixed. He tends to deftly toe the lines between progressive, minimal, and techno in traditional Kompakt fashion. The opening set will be a back-to-back from local heroes Papa Lu (the Kazbah) and Benjamin K (You’re Welcome).
